Cosmetic Skin Treatments: How Long Do Dermal Fillers Last?

So you’ve finally decided to fight back against the signs of aging. Congratulations! But what’s the best way to regain your smooth youthful-looking skin? Dermal fillers have become a booming sensation in the world of anti-aging treatments, and it’s no wonder. In 2016, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons reported that approximately 2.6 million injections were administered in the United States.

It’s clear that dermal fillers have changed the tide in cosmetic skin treatments Yet the question remains: if they work so well to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, how long do the effects actually last?

The effects of dermal fillers can last anywhere between three months to two years. It depends on the product being used and where on the body the product is being injected. So let’s break it down and give you a clear picture of the results you can expect.

While there are multiple brands of dermal fillers, the two that are the most popular are Juvederm and Restylane. Each of these brands uses hyaluronic acid, a natural lubricating substance in our bodies, to fill and plump wrinkled areas. Each brand has their own line of fillers each with results that last for various lengths of time. Keep in mind, however, that dermal filler injections require several rounds of treatment. Keeping a regular routine of treatments will give you the best chance at long-lasting effects.

Juvederm

Juvederm is the number one dermal filler collection in the world. This collection has five different types of fillers: Juvederm Vollure XC, Juvederm Voluma XC, Juvederm Volbella XC, Juvederm XC, and Juvederm Ultra XC.

Juvederm Vollure XC and Juvederm XC: The two fillers are mainly used to soften and smooth out laugh lines and deep wrinkles around the nose and mouth. The effects of these fillers last up to 18 months.

Voluma XC: Voluma is all about giving cheeks fullness. This filler fills out any wrinkles and sagging skin on and around the cheeks. Results can last up to 2 years.

Volbella XC: Volbella is used to reduce the appearance of “vertical lip lines” and is used to fill and plump the lips. The effects can last for up to 1 year.

Ultra XC: Ultra XC is an all-around filler that’s suited for just about every part of the face. This includes laugh lines, nose folds, deep wrinkles and can even be used to plump lips. Results can be seen for up to 1 year.

Restylane

Restylane is the second most popular dermal filler brand globally with six products in its collection. They include Restylane, Restylane-L, Restylane Silk, Restylane Lyft with Lidocaine, Restylane Refyne, and Restylane Defyne.

Restylane and Restylane-L: Both of these fillers were specifically formulated to smooth out deep wrinkles around the nose and mouth, creating the appearance of overall skin fullness. The effects can be seen for up to 18 months.

Lyft with Lidocaine: For deeper, more severe wrinkles, Restylane has created Lyft with Lidocaine. This filler is injected deep into the facial tissue to smooth out deep lines and wrinkles. It is also used to smooth out the back of the hand and to battle “age-related contour deficiencies.” When injected into the back of the hand, Lyft with Lidocaine can last for up to 6 months. When used a facial dermal filler, its effects can last up to 12 months.

Restylane Silk: Silk is used mainly as a lip injection to fill out and plump the lips. This injection has smaller hyaluronic acid particles to help subtly fill out lip lines. Results can last for up to 6 months.

Restylane Refyne and Defyne: These two fillers are very unique. They’ve been created using XpresHAn Technology. This is a process that turns hyaluronic acid into a gel that is then injected around the nose and mouth. Results can be seen for up to 12 months.
