Cosmetic Skin Treatments: Improve Your Skin for the Holiday Season

The holiday season is finally here. As old friends and long distant relatives begin to gather, there’s no doubt you’ll want to look your best. Many people look for the perfect WOW! outfit and settle on an amazing hairstyle, but we can’t forget about our skin. Beautiful skin is often the first thing people notice.

Let’s go over a few simple skin treatments that will improve your skin just in time for the holiday season.

Wrinkles

If those frown lines, crow’s feet, and smile creases are ruining your holiday cheer, no worries. Simple treatments can smooth you out in no time.

1) Botox

Botox may be the most popular solution to wrinkles. Why? Because the effects of botox fully appear in a matter of days and, when administered properly, there are little to no side effects. It’s also minimally invasive and takes less than an hour to complete.

Botox is surrounded by a lot of horror stories. However, it is important to note that while Botox is a toxin, it only becomes harmful if it is improperly administered. Be sure to only visit a certified dermatologist for your injection.

2) Dermal Fillers

Unlike botox, dermal fillers are a more natural option when it comes to injections. Dermal fillers are hyaluronic acid injections that are injected in specific areas to “fill” them out, making the wrinkles virtually disappear. Hyaluronic acid is a substance that is already present in our bodies and contributes to smooth skin, moistened eyes, and lubricated joints. Think of these injections as simply adding to what you already have in your system. Like Botox, the treatment’s duration is short and the effects appear rather quickly, lasting from 6 to 18 months depending on the brand of the injection.

Acne

You don’t have to be a teen to suffer from acne. No matter how old you are, acne is annoying. Here are a few treatments that can clear it up quickly.

1) Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)

Very similar to light therapy, IPL is a treatment in which the skin is exposed to pulses of light at varying wavelengths. This light penetrates the skin so that it can be absorbed by the sebaceous cells forcing them to stop producing oil and eventually disappear.

2) Chemical Peels

While it may not be fast acting, chemical peels can effectively dry out the pimples without irritating the skin or leaving a scar.

Dark Spots

Pimples often leave behind unsightly dark spots. The easiest way to get rid of them in time for the holidays is to rely on light therapy. Using a special type of ultraviolet light, the cells responsible for pigmentation absorb it, converting the light to thermal energy (aka heat), thus destroying the cells. The dark spots will lose some of their color, allowing them to blend in with the rest of the skin.
