Treatments like Proactiv have proven to be very effective in treating stubborn acne. Medicated soaps and moisturizers can eventually clear not just acne but dark spots and even old acne scars. They are only successful, however, when used as a daily routine. Even though they are wondrously effective, your skin will begin to grow dependent on the medicine within the products. Meaning, if you were to abruptly stop your daily routine, you could experience a severe breakout, undoing all of the hard work it took to clear your skin. These kits are also expensive. So don’t start a routine unless you know that you can continually replenish your supply.
2) Consider Light Therapy
In recent years, dermatologists have come to recommend blue light or red light therapy as a way to treat mild to moderate acne. Also called phototherapy, this technique focuses specifically on acne that is the result of inflammation or the presence of bacteria. While blue and red light therapy are both used to treat acne, blue light is the most common. Emitting at a wavelength of 400 to 450 nanometers, the blue light penetrates into the top layer of the skin, killing the common types of bacteria responsible for acne. It can even help to reduce inflammation which limits the symptoms caused by acne. Red light, on the other hand, is more of a healing tool. Emitting a further wavelength than blue light at 680 nanometers, it penetrates even deeper into the skin to help heal any scarring caused by acne. It also reduces inflammation. While red light is not really used to zap acne away, it can help promote the healing of your skin and any condition that may cause breakouts.
3) Try Chemical Peels
Chemical peels are a mixed solution of different acids applied to the skin regularly. Upon application, the skin will blister and after some time, peel away. As the skin peels, new cells form to replace the old skin. Depending on the strength of the solution, the peel can penetrate deep into the skin unclogging pores and causing deeper injury. The deeper the solution goes, the more growth of new, fresh skin will be seen. Don’t let the terms “injury” and “blisters” scare you, however. Chemical peels work on a microscopic level, so any damage that occurs is being done is to your cells and not your actual skin. Thus, not affecting your nerves or causing pain. Peels are safe treatment options, and while some people may experience a stinging or slight burning sensation, there is no true pain involved.
4) DIY With Home Remedies
Nowadays, everyone wants to make the switch to natural options for just about everything. This includes acne treatment. Many people enlist the help of apple cider vinegar, witch hazel, fish oil, aloe vera, and even mouthwash to control acne. Some live by these remedies while others claim that it is a waste of time. You can experiment on your own and see what works for you. Keep in mind that home remedies have not been medically proven and some can end up doing more harm than good, so please exercise caution.
