The Best Nighttime Beauty Rituals for Great Skin

After a long hard day, all we want to do is fall onto our pillow. Yet, even when we are drop-dead tired, we head to the bathroom to wash away the day. But it isn’t always enough to simply cleanse the face and skin in the evening hours. Having a nighttime beauty ritual for your skin can go a long way in helping you achieve fresh, beautiful skin in the morning that will last the whole day. Here are five beauty rituals for you to add to your nightly routine.

1) Deeply Cleanse Your Face

Throughout the day, our faces have endured serious dirt trauma. From the makeup and moisturizers we applied in the morning, to the production of oil and the accumulation of sweat and dirt, it all builds up to create skin issues later on. To make matters worse, we touch our faces often without even realizing it, so the natural dirt and grime our face produces get a funky mixture of food oils, germs, and bacteria delivered via our hands. As we sleep, any negative substances hiding on our face seep further into the skin. This is why, when you wake up in the morning, you may find new whiteheads, blackheads, and zits that you didn’t have the night before. So it is absolutely imperative to wash it all away before bed.

When washing, we recommend doing a double cleanse. This technique requires you to wash your face twice; first with an oil-based cleanser to cut through and breakdown makeup while clearing away dirt and grime. The second cleanser is more like a treatment and is water-based. It should help with any skin issues like dry skin, overly-oily skin, and/or acne.

2) Apply facial treatment

Many of us face skin issues like wrinkles, fine lines, acne, and oil and dry skin. Treating these issues before bed gives your skin a chance to relax and take it all in. Speak with your dermatologist about any skin problems and conditions you may have, then shop around for the best product for you.

3) Use moisturizer

The skin loves to dry out while we’re sleeping, so to battle this, you must apply moisturizer after you’ve washed your face and before laying down. It’s best to use a non-oil based moisturizer as the extra oil can trap any sweat you may have while you sleep. You can use this guide to help you choose the best moisturizer for you. If you want added moisture without needing to slap on a bunch of cream, pull out the humidifier. This isn’t just for when you’re sick. A humidifier can help bring moisturizer to the air and naturally keep your skin from drying out.

4) Take care of your eyes

Our eyes seem to take the worst of it when it comes to the lack of a nighttime ritual. We develop bags and dark circles making us look considerably older. But there’s no reason your eyes shouldn’t be bright in the morning. To help with this, you can apply eye cream at night that will help minimize the sagging and dark circles. It’d be a good idea to find a product that contains collagen. Collagen is a natural substance found throughout our bodies that is the major building block of proteins. It is also responsible for elastin, which gives our skin it’s smooth, supple texture. Add this to your nighttime beauty ritual and you’re sure to see results over time.

5) Repeat Nightly

No matter how many rituals you add to your routine, none of it will matter if you aren’t consistent. Repetition is the only way to ensure you get and maintain the results you want. You can think of it like you are retraining your skin to get into shape. It’ll take time for the results to show, but if you are consistent, positive results are guaranteed.

Have faith in your rituals and incentivize yourself to complete them nightly. If you want some help and guidance, or more info and are in the Cincinnati, Ohio area, feel free to reach out to our experts at The Dermatology Group. Give us a call today!
