The Top 3 Minimally Invasive Skin Procedures

There’s a lot that goes into choosing the right skin procedure. The first thing that most people wonder is how invasive the procedure may be. For many of us, we believe that the treatment is often far scarier than dealing with the condition itself. Luckily, there are plenty of minimally invasive procedures that can kick all that fear to the curb. Here are the top three that you may want to consider and discuss with your dermatologist.

The Top Minimally Invasive Skin Procedures

1. Light Therapy

One of the most minimally invasive skin procedures is undoubtedly light therapy. Light therapies are treatments used to treat cosmetic skin conditions like acne, deep wrinkles, vitiligo, as well as more serious skin conditions like psoriasis, eczema, and even precancerous skin lesions. What’s great about light therapy is that all of the treating happens below the skin. This keeps the top layer of skin and tissue from being disturbed. During a session of light therapy, light is emitted at a specific wavelength and is directed at the skin. The skin cells absorb the light, convert the light to heat, and ruptures. Over the next few days, the body clears the ruptured cells, leaving behind the remaining healthy ones. Light therapy is relatively painless, has limited side effects (though some people may experience a reaction similar to a sunburn), and has little to no downtime.

2. Microneedling

Used specifically to create flawless facial skin, microneedling is a popular minimally invasive cosmetic procedure. This treatment consists of an aesthetician using a handheld device with a tip covered with thin and tiny needles. After a facial cleanse, this device is then gently rolled over the skin creating tiny pricks. Not to worry, the pricks are virtually painless and promote the production of collagen. Collagen helps to regenerate the cells and create new skin. This allows wrinkles to fade, minimizes acne scars, and creates smooth and even-toned skin. With microneedling, there’s zero downtime, and any redness that may be experienced fades in just a few days.

3. Chemical Peels

Many people rely on minimally invasive chemical peels to give them exquisite skin. Focused on repairing, chemical peels involve the application of an acid solution onto the face. The solution creates a chemical reaction on the skin and causes the top layer of skin to peel off over the next few days. Once the skin sloughs away, it reveals new, youthful skin. Chemical peels can treat wrinkles, acne scars, blackheads, and whiteheads. This procedure is known to be painless but some may experience a light stinging sensation. Common side effects include redness, possible blistering, and a burning sensation. However, these typically fade in less than a week. There’s also little to no downtime depending on the strength of the chemical peel.

These procedures are some of the most minimally invasive cosmetic treatment options. But this is just the tip of the iceberg.
