What Filler Is Best for Me?

If you’re like the rest of us, you’ve probably been searching the internet looking for as much information as you can get on fillers. You’ve seen the commercials and heard the stories and now you’re wondering which one you should try. Not to worry. We’ll tell you everything you need to know about fillers and which one is best for you.

What Are Fillers?

When we see commercials for fillers, we usually just see pretty models who have had filler injections smiling and carrying on with their lives, but it’s quite hard to see what the filler did to create their stunning look. Fillers, also known as dermal fillers, are injections filled with various substances that work with our natural body mechanisms. Each filler was designed to have a plumping effect when injected into the skin.

With this knowledge, doctors and researchers created various mixtures that could be used to make lips fuller, smooth out wrinkles and creases on the face, and create a more youthful, plump look overall.

Dermal fillers have become an alternative to Botox in areas of the face that Botox is not FDA approved. Common injection areas include fillers under eyes, the lips, corners of the mouth (smile lines), corners of the eye (crow’s feet), sides of the nose, and even the back of the hand.

Different Dermal Filler Types

Hyaluronic Acid (Restylane and Juvederm)

Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance found in our bodies, specifically our eyes and joints. This substance is responsible for providing the body with necessary moisture to function properly.

As popular dermal fillers, the hyaluronic acid in Juvederm and Restylane hydrate the skin, fills out deep creases and fine lines. Thanks to its natural origins, these fillers work well for those who have sensitive skin or are prone to acne. It even has preventative properties that can block free radicals from attacking the skin. Results from hyaluronic acid fillers can last from 6 months to one year.

Poly-L-Lactic Acid (Sculptra Aesthetic)

Poly-L-Lactic Acid dermal fillers are synthetic fillers that help to stimulate and promote the growth of collagen. Collagen is the building block of protein and is responsible for the elasticity and plumpness of our skin. With these injections, not only do they fill out wrinkles and sagging sections, but once the mixture dissolves into the body, it kicks collagen production into overdrive. The collagen will work to essentially rebuild the skin’s elasticity.

The brand name for Poly-L-Lactic Acid is Sculptra Aesthetic and results can last for up to two years.

What Type of Filler Is Best for You?

Each of these injection types serve their own purpose. In conclusion, if you’re looking for a filler that will make your skin look youthful and elastic we recommend using poly-L-acid injection. If you want fuller lips, we suggest trying hyaluronic acid fillers. The list goes on.
