What Latisse Can Do for Your Beauty Routine

It’s been said that the eyes are the window to the soul. Well, if that’s the case, then making our eyes look amazing is imperative during day to day conversation and when you want to make a great impression. Some spend hours perfecting the smokey eye, testing their cat-eye technique, and whatever other makeup craze is out there, but no matter what we do, we can’t forget about luscious lashes. Some of us rely on fake lashes, but between the glue and the mess or spending too much on magnetic lashes there has to be a better way. With age, our lashes tend to not grow in as fully as they used to. So if you want to keep your signature look going and prevent further hair loss from your lashes, you’ll want to look into naturally growing eyelashes with the cosmetic dermatology treatment, Latisse.

What to Know About Latisse

What Is Latisse?

Latisse is an FDA-approved topical medication treatment used to promote the growth of eyelashes. Made from a bimatoprost ophthalmic solution, Latisse is used to treat hypotrichosis (inadequate eyelashes) and is regularly applied to the upper lash line daily for four months. Over time, the lashes will appear darker, fuller, and longer.

The lipid compound bimatoprost started as prescription eye drops as a treatment option for glaucoma. It unknowingly had the side effect of darker and fuller lashes. It was this discovery that led to the creation, production, and distribution of Latisse.

How Does It Work?

No one quite knows why bimatoprost causes lashes to grow. All we know is that the lipid compound strengthens the present lashes and promotes the growth of new ones, giving the appearance of thick and full eyelashes.

What Can I Expect?

To achieve optimal results from using Latisse, you must constantly follow the 5-step daily routine. You’ll begin by cleaning your face and ensuring it is free of makeup and contact lenses have been removed. Next, you are to prepare the applicator by applying one drop of the Latisse solution to the provided plastic applicator. Afterward, you will carefully use the applicator to apply the solution to the skin of the base of upper eyelashes as Latisse can’t be applied to the bottom lashes. Finally, you’ll blot away any excess solution that may be on the skin with a tissue and throw away the applicator.

When you follow this routine for both eyes once a day for 16 weeks, you can expect to see results as soon as week four. However, you must not stop daily application. If you stop applying Latisse, the process will reverse, and your eyelashes will return to their original state.

Though adverse reaction is unlikely, it is possible that you may experience eye redness, itchiness, dry eyes, darkened eyelids, and possible darkened brown pigmentation in the iris.

Is It Safe?

Latisse is considered to be a generally safe cosmetic treatment for the majority of people. However, if you have certain eye conditions like uveitis and conjunctivitis or certain allergies, then Latisse may not be right for you. Speak with your dermatologist about your options.
